Three powerful video strategies to drive quality traffic to your website

Three powerful video strategies to drive quality traffic to your website

If a picture can tell a thousand words then video is priceless! For many businesses today, video is an integral part of their marketing strategy – and for good reason. Video marketing can grow your business by fostering a deeper relationship with clients, increasing return visits and attracting quality traffic. Marcus Seeger, MD at Video Experts and best-selling author, discusses his top video strategies to get you started.

1. Video blogging

Everyone knows how valuable a blog is, but in today’s increasingly competitive online market, having a text-based blog is no longer enough. Research shows that web users on the whole prefer to watch a video rather than read text.

A video blog (often shortened to vlog) is the perfect tool for building a regular stream of repeat visitors to your website, as potential and actual customers return for the latest published videos. This provides your business with a valuable channel to deeply connect with your customers.

An added bonus is that Google will value your video content and repeat visitor statistics, which will assist your organic search ranking.

Here are my top five tips for a successful video blog:

  • Be consistent and publish regular, quality content.
  • Ensure your content is aligned to what your target market wants to learn about – make it valuable and a must-watch.
  • Maintain a level of video production values that your customers expect from your brand.
  • To save time and money, batch your video production so you have a number of videos in the pipeline to release at set dates.
  • Choose the most suitable person to represent your business on video. This might be the owner or managing director/CEO.

2. Content marketing with video

Traffic to your website is only valuable if it is the right traffic. You have probably heard the term content marketing – it’s where you create valuable and shareable content that your customers are attracted to.

Ask yourself: which content can I publish that my customers would simply love to hear about? Don’t be afraid to give away your best insider tips and tricks – the more valuable the content, the more effective it will be in attracting customers to your website.

A guaranteed strategy to attract the right traffic to your website is to create a video (or videos) that provides a solution to challenges that your ideal customer may have. You are providing a genuine reason to visit your website.

How much more effective do you think it is to say “visit our website to watch a free video on how you can solve [insert customers’ key challenge]” rather than “visit our website to find out more info”?

Once you have created your video content, you need to ensure people (your ideal customers) find out about it so they will visit your website. After all, content marketing without marketing is just content. Here are four strategies to get you started:

  • Create a targeted pay-per-click campaign (Google AdWords or Facebook, for example).
  • Give away promotional pamphlets at trade shows, expos and networking events.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of the content and encourage them to share the videos through social media.
  • Add a description of the video with a link on all email signatures.

3. Ensure YouTube views turn into website visitors

You never know when a YouTube will go viral, which is even  more incentive to build your YouTube channel. As a search engine, YouTube is second only to Google. This fact alone is good enough reason to own an active YouTube channel. When you also consider that over six billion hours of video are watched each month, it’s a compelling case. The common challenge with YouTube, however, is how to ensure your audience, which has found and watched your YouTube videos, then visits your website.

The most effective strategy to funnel YouTube viewers to your website is to create a very clear and precise call to action (CTA) that spells out exactly how and why they should do so. Creating a compelling reason – typically a free offer that is very valuable to your customers – is an excellent strategy. Examples of a free offer are a video series, report, ebook, white paper and audio downloads.

Here are four tips to make sure your CTA is noticed and acted upon:

  • Use the overlay options within YouTube to create the CTA text and link to your website.
  • Specifically mention your CTA in the video at least once.
  • Include your CTA in the video description text.
  • Include your website URL as a clickable link in the description text by adding http:// to the start of the URL e.g.

Implementing a video marketing strategy is a proven way to attract qualified leads, increase sales and develop a customer base that refers additional business. One of the ways video marketing does this is by consistently driving quality traffic to your website via video blogging, content marketing and YouTube.

While video may take greater resources than some other forms of marketing, the potential return on investment makes embracing video marketing worth it.

A consistent web presence is one way to build your business’s reputation in the marketplace. Here are some other ways to keep your business top of mind for your customers.
